Jorge de León (Guatemala, 1976) lives and works in Guatemala. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Arte Rafael Rodríguez Padilla. His work explores urban life and Guatemala’s political and social violence. Between 1996 and 2002, he worked as a tattoo artist in marginal areas of the city. His solo exhibitions include: Crónicas del caos, GAMMA Galería, México (2022); Y en los días adversos, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City (2020); En los prósperos días, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City (2017); Vértigo, Centro Cultural Municipal Correos, Guatemala City (2013); COLONIA, Galería La Botica Cultural of Ciudad de la Imaginación, (2012); Serie Revisiones, Galería Ex-Céntrico de la Cooperación Española (2011); HOMO-LOGO, Galería Carlos Woods Arte Antiguo y Contemporáneo, Ciudad de Guatemala (2007); and Biografía completa en Arte, La Fábrica (2006).

He has also participated in collective exhibitions in Canada, Spain, United States, Mexico, Central America, Switzerland, Ireland and Chile. He has participated in biennials in Spain, Nicaragua and Guatemala, and in 2004 he won the Glifo de Plata at the XIV Bienal de Arte Paiz and the Jóvenes Creadores Bancafé prize. His work is in the collections of Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Blanton Museum of Art, Austin; and Kadist Art Foundation, San Francisco, amongst others.
