Radamés “Juni” Figueroa

Artissima 2021

Turin

Nunca encontramos a Satoshi (We Never found Satoshi) is a new social sculpture by Radamés “Juni” Figueroa, commissioned by Artissima 2021 as part of his Illy Present Future Prize 2020.

The structure itself makes direct reference to an existing bar that the artist encountered in the Dominican Republic, whilst in a residence with La Cooperativa earlier this year.

It features some of his paintings alongside local products sourced in Italian mom and pop shops. And like the rest of his work -and especially after a year and a half of social distancing, quarantines, and limited interaction- the work invites for social connections as it functions as both an installation and also as a dance floor and gathering point to be used and activated by the audiences that inhabit it.

The installation features video works by Joseph Beuys, Marina Abramović, Richard Serra, on loan from GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino’s permanent collection, all of which are overlaid by the rich musical compositions and beats of his native Puerto Rico.
