Two Persons Exhibition:  Babylonian Fantasies
Liste Art Fair, Basel, Switzerland

Babylonian Fantasies focuses around the current followers of contemporary British conspiracy theorist David Icke.

Turning these fantastical theories on their head, Babylonian Fantasies is the name of a series of sculptures by Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa, commissioned by Gasworks, and inspired by Icke’s belief that the global ruling classes descend from the ‘Babylonian Brotherhood’ – the name Icke gives to an ancient extra-terrestrial reptilian race, originating in the Middle East. The sculptures themselves consist of four gold geometric shapes made of polystyrene and resin, nesting inside swarms of swelling jelly worms. The body of work offers a vision of critical, hybrid mythology that blurs the boundaries between religion and speculation, evangelism and imperialism.

Federico Herrero’s tropically coloured landscapes offer a glimpse into his mental processes, mapping a chromatic and compositional subjectivity that is deeply personal to him. Through his consistent exploration of colour, Herrero becomes a conjurer of the unique universes he creates with pigment, space and time. Complementary to this, Herrero’s playful and colourful canvases create a warm and vivid surrounding for Ramírez-Figueroa’s sculptures- helping construct a feeling of place for Naufus’ work.

The result will be an exceptional esoteric experience, through the work of two of the most exciting Latin American artists working today.
