Liste 2023

Proyectos Ultravioleta presents a solo by Vibeke Mascini exploring the electric grid as a haunted and poetic network of wild transformation. By being attentive to the radical metamorphoses of matter within the cosmos, the booth will contain works that echo each other, marking transformations through aspects of air, wind and flight, subtly anticipating turbulence.

Elements included are as wild and fleeting as a bird frozen
mid-flight and the dust from butterflies contained between the glass
of airplane windows… in a booth that has all of it’s lights
and sockets powered by its own micro-grid, using energy derived
through customs incineration of cocaine in airports and harbors.
Her projects often result from long collaborations with
scientists, lawyers, governments and organizations from
outside of the arts, channeling curious news items, alchemy, and
contemporary infractures that informs them. By exploring the
complex relationship between source and user, and focusing on the
material implications of unlikely sources from which electricity
is derived, Mascini proposes installations where memories and
mysterious sensorial experiences meet the newest technology of the
rapidly growing field of energy storage systems.

Her unlikely sources of electricity include a whale carcass, a
melting glacier, confiscated cocaine, and human remains, which she
then shapes around associations with these electric agents, and
their implication and tension of their destruction in the process
of becoming fuel.

Our proposal for Liste Art Fair Basel is centered around 4 new
works, even if some elements have been partially
explored before.
