In the regions of the world in which to make the least possible effort to achieve something is the modus operandi by excellence, the chapuz -the culture of botching or patching things up- prevails. The costume of improvisation as well as the incomplete and precarious solutions (in addition to total indifference to the form) are the most usual in terms of technical and technological difficulties. But this culture has filtered to virtually all aspects of life: from politics to everyday life, of course, through the exercise of occupation and work. Often it shows a good dose of ingenuity, some other times of mischief and cunning as well as a bit of sloppiness. That indolence that characterizes a large part of our Latin American region has defined the way we face problems, but also the landscape that surrounds us, a mixture between function and absurdity.

Así que se vaya… (So it goes…) is exhibition that tries, with little effort and a bit of inventiveness, to give an idea on this matter. It gathers works of several artists linked to Proyectos Ultravioleta and, although it does not want to illustrate the idea of ​​the chapuz, it is forced to assume it as constitutive. Perhaps the exhibition and this text should also include a list of international artists, references to German philosophers of the nineteenth century along with postmodern thinkers and resort to examples of cultural studies but with everything that needs to be done, it seems to us that this is enough. Yes, it would be perfect to solve the problem once and for all, and pursue that ideal of the service society: “excellence”, but while we put ourselves on to it, so it goes–así que se vaya.
