When He Woke Up…

Proyectos Ultravioleta
Guatemala City
February 3rd - May 25th, 2018

When he woke up, the dinosaur was still there.
– Augusto Monterroso, The Dinosaur, 1959

One thing is clear: mafias and organized crime structures in Guatemala have been heavily harmed by the work of Thelma Aldana as Attorney General of the Public Ministry, and Iván Velázquez as Director of CICIG. Since then, progress has never been made before in the fight against corruption and immunity in the country, linking more than 100 corrupt and corrupt (including the former President and the former Vice President of the Republic) to various criminal proceedings.

However, in the last year, the dark forces of the country have managed to re-accommodate and have formed nefarious alliances, among which the #PactoDeCorruptos stands out. Corruption has strongly clung to the Presidency of the Republic, the Congress of the Republic (and its newly elected Board of Directors), the different Ministries of the country, the Supreme Court of Justice, the port system, and recently the SAT … all with the approval of the economic elite of the country.

Understanding that history often repeats itself, When it woke up … it is an exhibition that invites the public to reflect on this critical moment that we are going through as a country, from a series of works in drawing, audio, video, sculpture, painting and letters . Think (and act!) In the here and now.
