Uncertain Nature, or how Landscape is Constructed From Guatemala

Proyectos Ultravioleta
Guatemala City

2 jun - 31 aug, 2018

Guatemala is a country blessed with an infinite amount of shared goods. Two oceans, lakes, rivers, forests, jungle, mountains and volcanos. Fertile ground where everything grows, a lot. A land that offers so much. So much.

And maybe it’s because it offers so much that it empowers many of us, the humans that inhabit it, to feel as if we own it and the universe combined. Here, we hunt down endangered animals and also the ones that are not, equally. We cut down protected and unprotected trees. And that whole thing of moving rivers is a daily occurrence. Every day. We fold and unfold the landscape, to squeeze out as much of it as possible.

However, nature is wise. She knows. And she knows that we, humans, are on our way out. That when we are gone, she will still be here. And she waits, patiently.

At the same time it must be said that not all humans are like that. The most sensitive beings take care of it and respect it. They try to connect with it’s roots, learn from it, and make offerings to it. They understand that nature is bigger than them. That it is a single being that is hundreds of thousands of years old, and is made up of all of the beings that have ever existed, exist, and will exist. They understand that in the best of cases we collaborate with it. That we roll on it and make impossible drawings with it as means to learn from it.

And so, we invite everyone to come and roll with us, to connect with the landscape, share an offering to our ancestors, reflect, and connect with the nature that surrounds us, who is wise and is constantly under construction.
