We Dress to Express, Not to Impress

Proyectos Ultravioleta
Guatemala City, Guatemala

The images presented in this exhibition are part of a series of portraits of the members of the Otaku culture in Guatemala. The photos are put as the starting point of a fantastic narrative of the performative art of the Cosplay that consists of dressing and interpreting, meticulously, the manga characters and Japanese animé.

The project is extended to investigate the relationship of the Cosplayer with the kameko (photographer) and evaluate how it generates a collection of images without prejudice to an intimate act of transformation.

The photographic image as an object of contemplation is also used to try to understand the relationship between the members of this community and its context as well as their particular interest in Japanese culture.
